Halloween Barbie Dolls

Add Some Barbie Magic to Halloween!

Did you know that dolls love Halloween too? Well at least Barbie does anyway, she dresses up in costume and has even taken her little sister Kelly trick or treating in years gone by.

It should hardly be a surprise that the world's favorite doll should join in with our celebrating and what a cool treat she would be for a little girl who has probably already eaten way too much candy to possibly have room for any more!

Christmas Barbie dolls have been popular for years as girls would receive a new doll every Christmas under the tree (in theory), but why not give dolls out to your children at Halloween as well - it might save on a dental bill or two, it'll certainly help to stop them feeling too sick when they've eaten all of the goodies they've got from your neighbors.

Halloween Barbie Dolls - Since the 1960s

Barbie Masquerade Dolls

Many people would assume that Halloween Barbies have only been around for a decade or so, but the very first Halloween Barbie was released in the 1960s.

Both Barbie and Ken were released as Barbie Masquerade and Ken Masquerade in 1963, in 1964 a matching Skipper Masquerade was also released. I'm not sure exactly what Barbie was supposed to be, but she did have a pointy hat so maybe she was a masked yellow and black witch?

Unfortunately it's quite hard to find one of these original Barbie dolls and I haven't been able to offer you one for sale from any online store, although sometimes they are available on ebay, although most of the time I've only seen the outfits on there and not the dolls.

'Modern" Barbie Halloween Dolls

Since the 90s Mattel have released Halloween Barbies on a regular basis - since they introduced (or should I say re-introduced since Masquerade Barbie #944 in the sixties) a Halloween Fun doll set with Barbie and Kelly in 1997 they have released at least one Halloween Barbie every year - some years 2 dolls have been released.

Let's have a look at all of these fun dolls in more detail starting with the '97 Halloween Fun Barbie and Kelly Set ....
Happy Halloween BARBIE & KELLY Gift Set Special Edition (1996)Check Price

Barbie is dressed for Trick or Treating in this gift set and she's taking her little sister Kelly with her. Isn't Kelly looking absolutely gorgeous in her pumpkin costume? Big sister Barbie is also getting into the spirit of the holiday with a Halloween knitted jumper - not exactly a costume, but at least she'll keep warm!

This seller has labeled this special edition set as 1996, but this set was actually an exclusive set made for Target for Halloween 1997.

In 1998 Mattel released another exclusive Target set which consisted of Barbie with Ken and this year they're in fancy dress as a very cool looking pirate couple - "Ahoy there me hearties!"

Target Special Edition Halloween Fun Barbie and KellyCheck Price

1999's Halloween Fun Barbie saw her in a set back with Kelly and they're in matching orange and black outfits - classic Halloween colors.

Enchanted Halloween Barbie (Special Edition)Check Price

For the new millennium we get Enchanted Halloween Barbie and this time she's all by herself and dressed as a witch who seems to have orange flames as part of her dress!

If it wasn't for the fact that The Hunger Games hadn't been written in 2000 I would suspect that Mattel had taken on the idea of a dress on fire and added it to the black witch idea!

Barbie Halloween PrincessCheck Price

In the year 2001 we see Halloween Barbie Princess where Barbie is wearing a beautiful purple dress and looking every inch a princess, although her cloak seems to be made out of a spider's web ....... the spider princess perhaps?

Halloween Glow Barbie

This Barbie was released in 2002 and the biggest draw was that her hair extension glowed in the dark which was a big hit. As you can see she's basically dress up as a purple witch which is pretty clever as most girls love the color purple!

More Halloween Barbies from This Millennium

Also released in 2002 was another Target exclusive Halloween Barbie called Purr-fectly Halloween Barbie. I can't source this particular doll for you at the moment at any online stores, but it's sometimes available on ebay.

Barbie Maskerade Party Doll (2002)Check Price

2003 saw two different Halloween dolls released, first was the Barbie Maskerade Party Doll which was available in the 'traditional' Barbie doll here as well as an African American version (below).

African American Maskerade Party BarbieCheck Price

I love the animal print outfit and I think Barbie suits being a 'big cat', don't you?

Halloween Fortune Barbie Fortune Teller doll Target ExclusiveCheck Price

The second doll released in 2003 was yet another exclusive for Target and was called Halloween Fortune Barbie which means it's no surprise to find that Barbie is dressed up as a fortune teller here!

I love the fact that this doll comes complete with her very own crystal ball ....... I wonder if that could tell her how popular she would be!

Halloween Enchantress Barbie DollCheck Price

2004 saw the release of the Halloween Enchantress doll and in this starry costume I'm sure that Barbie could very easily cast her own spell over you ....'hubble, bubble, toil and trouble......'

Boo-tiful Halloween Barbie DollCheck Price

The Target exclusive doll for 2004 was called Boo-tiful Halloween Barbie and as the name would suggest Barbie is dressed in white and looks like a very beautiful (almost ethereal) ghost.

Of course you can use other Barbie dolls as Halloween Barbies as well as or instead of these ones here - think of the times when Barbie has dressed up in costume and add those dolls to your Halloween collection too!

Barbie Halloween Wishes DollCheck Price

The 2005 Halloween Wishes Barbie see her dressed as a witch yet again in a gorgeous purple and black outfit and I have to say I do love the look of her boots, I wouldn't mind them in an adult human size!

Barbie Halloween StarCheck Price

Also released in 2005 was Halloween Star Barbie where Barbie is again sporting a witches hat, but this time she's teaming it up with jeans for more of a 'funky' look for Halloween!

Barbie Halloween Hip by MattelCheck Price
Halloween Hip is the name of this Barbie doll released in 2006, she's sporting a Halloween sweater which is orange with a black cat on the front and with this she's wearing a long denim skirt that has an orange fringe - very hip!

Barbie Trick or ChicCheck Price

Also in 2006 the Trick or Chic Barbie was released as an exclusive for Target.

Halloween Charm Barbie DollCheck Price
In 2007 two different Barbie dolls were released - the Halloween Charm that is featured here as well as the very rare Target exclusive - Halloween Party Barbie (2007).

This very elegant looking Halloween Barbie was released in this blonde version as well as an African American version (available below). Barbie obviously loves dressing up as a witch and I must say I love the spiderweb motif that is on this dress.

Barbie 2008 Halloween 12 Inch Doll (M3523) - Barbie Fashion Spell with Witch Costume and HairbrushCheck Price
Also in 2008 Mattel released Fashion Spell Barbie, another witch costume - perhaps we should call them Witch Barbies instead of Halloween Barbies!! - this time she's in a pretty pink and black outfit however adding a 'girly girl' touch to the Halloween spirit.

Halloween Treat Barbie DollCheck Price

Two dolls were released in 2009 including this cool Halloween Treat Barbie - again Barbie is donning a pointy witches hat, but this time her costume is glittering orange and Halloween purple in color which makes quite a striking combination.

Barbie Pink Halloween Barbie in Halloween CostumeCheck Price

This next doll was simply called Pink Halloween Barbie and was one of the Target exclusive releases (released in 2009).

Featuring Barbie's favorite color as well as a black and silver spiderweb decorated dress this doll is sure to bring a sparkle into any little girl's eyes.

Happy Halloween BarbieCheck Price
2010 sees the release of the Happy Halloween Barbie - yet another Target exclusive doll. Yet again we see that Barbie is a witch and she's also rocking the pink and black again this year.
I must admit I do love the black and pink broomstick she has with this doll, it looks like a very 'punk princess' style of accessory!

If you think this 2011 Halloween Barbie looks a step above all of the other Halloween Barbies featured here then there's a very good reason for it. This doll was designed by Bill Greening especially for collectors, a gold label Barbie Fan Club Exclusive doll there were only 3200 released.

If you're a Barbie collector thinking of adding some 'Halloween' to your collection then this is the doll for you! I absolutely love it myself, the paler skin on her face makes her look even more realistic as a witch and her gorgeous orange and black dress looks very sumptuous (I've only seen pictures though I must admit, I've yet to see this doll in real life).
Barbie Halloween Party Barbie Doll 2011Check Price

Barbie looks great in this 2011 Halloween Party Barbie - again she's dressed as a witch, but she's sparkling like it's time to party!

Combining pink, black and orange isn't something a lot of us can do, but Barbie rocks the look and I especially love the patent leather look boots she's wearing as well!

2011 also saw this Target exclusive Halloween doll released aptly called Halloween Treat Barbie.
Donning an orange and green costume this Barbie doll has a gorgeous pink pumpkin shaped bag to carry all of her goodies from Trick or Treating!

Barbie 2012 Halloween Barbie DollCheck Price

2012 saw Barbie wearing a very pretty party dress in pink with a black bow and a spiderweb pattern all over it. Sporting the same boots as last years Halloween Party Barbie and a pointy witches hat she's ready to go Trick or Treating with all of her friends. She's even had pink highlights put into her hair so that no one mistakes her for a wicked witch!

This 2012 Barbie is another Halloween doll that was an exclusive release designed by Bill Greening with only 5700 every made.

It's lovely to see Barbie as a ghostly figure this year instead of as a witch I must say! Her long cascading platinum blonde locks perfectly compliment the ethereal white gown that she's wearing. The chains that hang from her have you wondering exactly how she died, because she must surely be a ghost of a Barbie past ......

Another exquisite doll that any true collector would simply adore to add to their collection.
Mattel Barbie 2013 Halloween Barbie DollCheck Price

The 2013 Halloween Barbie may not be as stunning as the 'ghostly beauty' above, but she certainly looks like a fun doll with her little witches hat sat at a jaunty angle.

I love the pink streaks through Barbie's blonde hair as I think it really helps to tie her funky purple and orange dress together really well.

There are two 2014 Halloween Barbies and they both have pink skirts featuring black bats on them and black tops, the rest of the costume however is different as you can see below -

I personally prefer the one on the left as I love the jaunty witches hat on Barbie - she really seems to suit that look!

2015 Halloween Barbie

Barbie Moonlight Halloween Doll

The 2015 Barbie is here and she's looking good, the look seems to be all about black cats this year and it's sensational.

Barbie Moonlight Halloween Doll
I do love the touch of pink in Barbies hair underneath her cats ears which are cute.

Purple is definitely a great color for Barbie and adds a mystical feel to Halloween. I absolutely love the shape of the dress and the material looks like a lot of fun.

The more I look at 2015's Halloween Barbie the more I think she's absolutely fantastic - what are your thoughts?

This Zombie Bride Barbie is another gorgeous doll from designer Bill Greening that was released in time for Halloween 2015. Although not strictly a Halloween Barbie this doll is certainly perfect for a Halloween Barbie collection in my opinion.

There are some great zombie dolls on the market, but Barbie manages to make zombie brides look almost ethereal. This is apparently the first Barbie to have a gray skin pallor and yet I have to say she absolutely rocks it! When discussing her dress Bill Greening says - "Just because she's a zombie doesn’t mean she can’t have impeccable taste — after all, she’s still fashion-conscious Barbie!”

I do love this Barbie doll, don't you? Here's a couple more images for you to help really appreciate her.
